Options and Opportunities

If someone were to ask me what my greatest accomplishment is

without a doubt it's Motherhood.

I feel blessed everyday I'm able to impact the life of my children,

which I believe will make a difference for

future generations to come

I want my children to see Options and Opportunities 

instead of allowing fear or obstacles 

to dictate their quality of life.

Hopefully, seeing me work in an

nontraditional environment 

inspires my kids as well as 

women that they can 

do anything they set 

their mind to do.

A Blooming Haven

Everyday, I'm developing muscles I never realized I had, to do work 

I might never have chosen, if it were not for having to pull myself up by my
bootstraps to change my life.  

 In the past

there were many days when my situation didn't look rosy

 

but I believed that even the faith of a mustard seed would

enable me to change my life from Homeless to Hopeful
that would provide me with a beautiful Haven.

My Unconventional Career

 Being a Boilermaker is a tough job that requires grit and determination 

to pull your weight in a male dominated field. 

Yet, while the work can be grueling on even the strongest men, 

it provides you with a clear perspective on how much strength you're willing to 

exert as a woman to handle the challenges of the job.

 

Life has taught me some lessons that I can truly say have helped 

make me more resilient in preparation for being able 

to handle the rigors of working in construction.

Some people assume that as a female construct worker I must be a
tough-nose chick who spits nails and acts manly.

Yet that couldn't be farther from the truth because
I'm a real
Girly Girl
full of sugar & spice
who just happens to work in a unconventional career field. 

I didn't go into construction because I'm a feminist
or had something to prove.
 

I was simply presented with an opportunity to work in a career
that would enable me to provide a nice living for my family.  

 Being a Boilermaker isn't the type of job that most ladies
would even consider, but it works for me
 and I'm blessed to do work that I love.  

In actuality I'm the epitome of the deodorant commercial: 

"Tough like a man, yet soft like a woman!"

Being a Boilermaker and a Mom

There are two questions that I'm often asked:

1. What is a Boilermaker?

 2.  What do your kids think about what you do?

Well, here's my answer to both of those questions.

A Boilermaker is a trained craftsman who produces steel fabrications 

from plates and sections.

The name originated from craftsmen who would fabricate boilers, 

but they may work on projects as diverse as bridges to blast furnaces 

to the construction of mining equipment.

A Boilermaker works in construction as a member of the Shipbuilders Union.

Many Boilermakers are employed in repairing, repiping,
and re-tubing commercial steam 

and hot water boilers used for heating and domestic 

hot water in commercial buildings and multi-family dwellings.

 As a mom I'm responsible for the health and safety of my children....

 
whereas being a boilermaker 

I'm equally responsible for abiding by OSHA regulations that will
ensure the safety of myself and my co-workers. 

Failure to do my job properly could mean the difference between
life or death for myself or another contractor.

My children understand that my work is different from someone who works 

in an office or retail store.

Yet working in the construction field enables me to provide a comfortable

lifestyle for my family which might otherwise
not be possible on a minimum wage salary.

Mitigating Factors

It's a fact that bad things happen to good people regardless of how blessed
and highly favored you may be.
Your situation can turn from good to bad just like the weather. 

But that's where Faith comes in because it's what sustains you
while you're going through the storm. 

Regardless of the whatever challenges you face don't let life's mitigating factors
block you from receiving the blessings that the Creator has in store for you.

There's always a new day awaiting to emerge to for those who believe.

Embracing Change

Change is one of the most difficult things to accept
 
because
it's easier to remain in a state of turmoil than to put forth
the effort it takes to control your life.

But, I'm living proof that with Faith, Hope and Determination
anything's possible.

I'll admit that while change can be difficult, 

it can also lead to
remarkable blessings.

If you're stuck in a rut or dissatisfied with the state of your life,
take it from me that it's never too late to Embrace Change.

Here's my inspirational message that can be
found in (NKJV) Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be Transformed 
by the renewing
of your mind,
that you may prove what is
Good and Acceptable to the perfect will of GOD

Life Altering Situations

Ask any five year old female what she wants to be when she grows up,


I'm certain the answer probably won't be a Boilermaker.
 
 
Like most little girls that age,
I dreamed of growing up to be a Princess,

 living happily ever after with my Prince Charming in a
beautiful home that would be our castle.

Never in my wildest imagination did I think I'd end up being a single mother

or worst yet, be homeless.
My life certainly didn't turn out the way I figured it would.
Yet even then I always believe that there would be better days ahead
if I just trusted in God

to put my feet back on the right path no matter how many times I stumbled.
The one thing I learned is that regardless of my situations
God is still in control.

When the opportunity presented itself I grabbed it with both hands and
changed my destiny, becoming the Boilermaker Mom.
